Spanish School in Antigua Guatemala:

Family Homestay

Ever since the inception of immersion Spanish courses in Latin America, a homestay with a local family has been an important part of every Spanish course.

A family homestay is not only an economical way to have a comfortable place to stay while you study Spanish. A homestay also provides a lot of opportunity to practice your Spanish outside of the classroom, learn about the customs and culture of Latin America and take part in the everyday life of average Guatemalans.

Guatemalans are famous for their friendly and welcoming nature and will do their best to make you comfortable in their homes. Besides helping you to practice your Spanish, they will give you valuable insights into the Guatemalan way of life and useful advice to help you make the most of your stay in Antigua.

A family homestay includes breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday. The families don't serve meals on Sundays and national holidays. At least one family member – often the entire family – is present at each meal and ready to chat with you.

Most host families in Antigua Guatemala are middle-class by local standards. Their homes are nice and comfortable but not luxurious.

The host families we work with are located within a few blocks from the school, so you can walk to the school in just a few minutes and no lengthy bus or taxi rides are necessary.

The families typically host several students at a time, which will give you the opportunity to socialize with your fellow students and explore Antigua or go out together.
